The next chapter in the Call of Duty series is scheduled for a November 5 release on both current and next-gen consoles—as well as the PC. The game is expected to look better on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 than on previous consoles, but apparently, it's the PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts that will look the best.
So says Mark Rubin, the game's executive producer, who spoke to the folks at Kotaku last week. Rubin revealed that the PC version of Ghosts will have "its own assets," and he added, "They're actually using an even higher version in many cases than the next-gen consoles, from a texture standpoint."
That's a departure from the way Infinity Ward has handled PC development of past CoD titles. As Kotaku points out, those games have tended to use the same visual assets on all major platforms—PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. That has meant relatively low-res textures and some awfully drab-looking levels.
I haven't actually bothered to play a CoD title in a while, but I might pick up Ghosts for the eye candy alone. There's something to be said for getting a premium experience, even if that experience turns out to be more of an on-rails Michael Bay flick than anything.
