Deal of the week: A 3TB hard drive and a discounted GTX 660

— 5:01 PM on August 30, 2013

With the long weekend coming up, now's a pretty good time to build a new PC. It's also a good time to order parts, since e-tailers have some Labor Day deals going right now. For instance...

  • Western Digital's Red NAS 3TB hard drive is on sale for $130.99 at Newegg. The list price is $150.99, but you can lop $20 off at checkout if you enter the promo code EMCXMTX22. This drive has a spindle speed somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,400 RPM, so it's not quite quick enough to serve as primary storage for your OS and applications. However, it's just fine for mass storage, and it has extra mojo to accommodate RAID and NAS storage setups, too. Oh, and the three-year warranty certainly doesn't hurt, given the prevalence of one- and two-year warranty on other drives.
  • EVGA's superclocked GeForce GTX 660 2GB graphics card is down to $169.99 after a $25 mail-in rebate. This bad boy runs at 1046MHz with a 1111MHz Boost speed, which is quite a ways above the reference 960/980MHz. As icing on the cake, the card comes with a free copy of Batman: Arkham Origins, which you'll be able to redeem when the game comes out on October 25.

That's all for our U.S. deals. North of the border, our Canadian friends can partake in NCIX's Long Weekend Sale event. As usual, there's no shortage of discounts. Items of note include a 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7,200-RPM hard drive for $87.99 CAD and a 120GB Kingston SSDNow V300 solid-state drive for just $88.99 CAD.
