Deal of the week: A 7970 for $250 and a 4TB hard drive for $170
I totally wore myself out writing about chairs today, so I'll keep this week's deal o' the week post short and sweet:
- XFX's Radeon HD 7970 3GB Double D graphics card is on sale for $249.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate right now. The card comes with three free games as part of AMD's Never Settle Forever bundle. The 7970 has the same graphics chip as the $300 R9 280X and the same number of units enabled, but it runs at a slightly lower clock speed with slightly slower RAM. So, really, it's a bargain at $250. You can compare the two cards' specs here.
- Need a mass storage drive? Seagate's 4TB Desktop HDD.15 hard drive is down to $169.99 shipped at Newegg. The HDD.15 isn't quite quick enough to serve as a main system drive, but it will handle mass storage duties nicely. See our review here, wherein Geoff calls this drive the "mini van of PC storage."
- If you'd like a copy of Windows 8.1 for a new PC, Newegg has OEM versions of the operating system available. It charges $99.99 for Windows 8.1 and $139.99 for Windows 8.1 Pro. As a reminder, Microsoft's current Personal Use License allows for OEM copies of Windows to be installed on a home-built PC for personal use and to be moved to a new PC when you upgrade. (Of course, if you already own Windows 8, there's no need to pay anything; Windows 8.1 is a free upgrade for that operating system.)
North of the border, NCIX's October Madness Super Sale is underway. Items of note there include a 2TB WD Green hard drive for $89.99 CAD and a 4TB Seagate Desktop HDD.15 for $169.99 CAD—but there are many more to check out.
