ORIGINAL STORY: Just before the release of AMD's R7 260X graphics card earlier this month, Nvidia slashed the prices of its GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost graphics cards. The 2GB model went down from $169.99 to $149.99, and the 1GB variant was knocked down from $149.99 to $129.99. Nvidia said these cuts were permanent. As icing on the cake, mail-in rebates took an extra $20 off the new prices in certain cases.
Well, it's now been exactly three weeks since the cuts went into effect, and as far as I can tell, Newegg has rolled back the price cuts for both variants of the GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost. The cheapest 1GB model is now $149.99, and the cheapest 2GB one is $169.99, before mail-in rebates.
We asked Nvidia to comment on the change this morning, and we were told, "Looks like someone needs to get on the phone with Newegg." We received a follow-up e-mail saying, "Newegg should be fixing the pricing shortly." That was three hours ago. As I write this, Newegg's prices still haven't budged.
The suggestion that this is all a mix-up does seem to hold water. Amazon has plenty of GTX 650 Ti Boost cards in stock, and its lowest prices for the 1GB and 2GB model are $132.99 and $149.99, respectively. Then again, TigerDirect's cheapest 2GB GTX 650 Ti Boost is $179.99 before a $30 mail-in rebate, so Newegg isn't the only one flaunting the Nvidia cuts.
Curious. We'll keep you updated as this develops.
