Deal of the week: An assortment of last-minute bargains

— 12:45 PM on December 20, 2013

Today is cutting it close for last-minute Christmas shopping, but it's never too late—or too early, in fact—for bargain hunting. And there certainly are some nice bargains to be found today:

  • Crucial's M500 240GB solid-state drive is down to $129.99 at Newegg until noon PST today. According to SlickDeals, you can get the price down even further, to $116.99, by entering the promo code "MASTERPASS" and using Newegg's MasterPass checkout. That takes you down to 49 cents/GB, which is impressively affordable for an SSD.
  • Need an IPS display? Acer's H226HQLbid, a 21.5" IPS offering with a 1080p resolution, is on sale for $119.99 with the promo code EMCWVVX43. This bad boy has a five-star (sorry, five-egg) average rating out of 56 customer reviews, so it looks like a solid choice.
  • If you're building a new gaming PC, you're going to want a new Windows license. Newegg has the OEM version of Windows 8.1 x64 down to $79.99 after the promo code EMCWVVX86—a $20 discount. Remember, Microsoft's new licensing rules allow you to transfer OEM licenses from one PC to another. That means you get many of the benefits of a retail license without the associated price premium.

On the gaming side of things, Steam's Holiday Sale has just been updated with a new round of bargains. Those include:

  • Far Cry 3 for $7.49.
  • Crysis 2 - Maximum Edition for $7.49.
  • Total War: Shogun 2 for $7.49
  • Chivalry: Medieval Warfare for $6.24.
  • EVE Online for $1.98.

Finally, here's what we dug up north of the border in NCIX's Last Minute Christmas Savings sale: a Corsair Carbide 330R enclosure for $89.99 CAD, a 3TB WD Green hard drive for $119.99 CAD, and a 120GB Kingston SSDNow V300 solid-state drive for $88.99 CAD. There's plenty more where that came from, so be sure to check out the sale page at NCIX yourself.
