Darth Via torpedoes cheap AMD duallies?

— 1:29 AM on July 13, 2001

LocalYokel called our attention to this post at Ace's Hardware about an AMD white paper about incompatibilities between the AMD 762 north bridge controller and Via's 686B south bridge chip. The 762 north bridge is the core chip in AMD's 760MP dual Athlon chipset. According to some, the 686B south bridge is our last, best hope for cheap AMD dually systems, so these incompatibilities are causing some worries. These problems aren't so severe they can't be worked around, but working around them could cause delays. Ugh.
