Last Wednesday, DigiTimes reported that Intel had postponed its 14-nm Broadwell processors until the fourth quarter—and that most Broadwell models wouldn't even show up until the first quarter of 2015. The site attributed the information to unnamed sources, which led us to suggest taking it with a pinch of salt.
Well, the salt may not be warranted. Yesterday, the guys at VR-Zone Chinese posted a couple of leaked roadmap slides concerning Intel's 15W and 28W U-series Core processors, and those slides lend a lot of weight to the DigiTimes story.
The slides, which look right out of an Intel PowerPoint deck, each have a little "Updated" tag at the top right. There are two slides: one about 15W chips and the other about 28W models. The former shows only three Broadwell offerings scheduled for a fourth-quarter release, while the latter shows nothing but Haswell-based parts until the first quarter of 2015. That sort of jibes with what DigiTimes was saying—that only U- and Y-series Broadwell chips would show up in the fourth quarter, and that "mass shipments" wouldn't kick off until 2015.
This may not bode well for those desktop-bound Broadwell-K parts that were supposed to arrive in the fourth quarter, either. It sounds like Haswell Refresh and Haswell-E may be the only fresh meat we desktop folks get this year. (Thanks to Fudzilla for the link.)
