I've been hearing rumors and speculation about an iPad version of Office, oh, pretty much forever. Earlier today, the rumors came true with the release of Office for iPad.
This new version of Microsoft's productivity suite includes Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, all of which have apparently been "reimagined" for Apple's tablet. In Microsoft's words, the apps are "unmistakably Office, while offering a fantastic touch experience built from the ground up for iPad." Whatever buzzwords you want to use, the apps seem to combine Microsoft's
Metro Modern UI styling with the new iOS 7 look quite well. Their design is largely consistent with that of Office Online, too.

Office for iPad is freely downloadable from the iOS App Store, and it will let you "read, view and present documents, spreadsheets and presentations." Editing capabilities are available, but they require an Office 365 subscription. A list of the paid Office 365 subscription plans that include Office for iPad can be viewed in the FAQ at the bottom of this article. Otherwise, Microsoft says you can give the new apps a shot by signing up for a free, 30-day Office 365 trial here.
