What was the biggest stinker, the worst bit of tech gear you ever foolishly parted with money to obtain?
Mine was a Quantum Bigfoot 5.25" hard drive, way back in the day. 3.5" drives were the norm at the time, but it was cheap and would fit into my case. The thing had a lot of storage space for the price, but I hadn't thought through how its combination of low rotational speeds, low platter densities, and long actuator strokes would translate into performance.
'twas slow, folks, and loud, and I grew to hate it lots.
That experience set me on the path to understanding storage tech better, so I wouldn't make the same mistake again.
What about you? Buy anything you really came to regret? Discuss.
