When CD-ROMs go bad

A buddy of mine named Mike Cain had a small crack in his Win98 CD, so he decided to burn a copy of it before the CD became unusable. He popped the CD into the drive, it spun up to read the disc, and soon blender-like sounds started coming from the CD-ROM drive. After several hours of clean-up work, he was able to piece together this much of the CD:

Not pretty. He didn't say whether he was able to salvage the drive. Remember kids: CD-ROMs and crack don't mix.
