We're still eagerly awaiting Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, which is in development at Gearbox and 2K Australia and primed for a mid-October release. Gearbox is also working on another game, and this one doesn't belong to the Borderlands franchise—or any previous franchise, for that matter.
Say hello to Battleborn, a "next-gen hero-shooter" with co-op multiplayer and a curious mish-mash of TF2, Serious Sam, and fantasy RPGs:
Here's the synopsis, in Gearbox's words:
Battleborn is a next-gen hero-shooter brought to you by the creators of the award-winning and best-selling Borderlands franchise. In Battleborn's distant future, the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors, who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace. Choose from a myriad of powerful heroes and fight together alongside your friends in an intense co-operative campaign, or battle against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches.
GameInformer's exclusive preview, which went up earlier today, also mentions "unlockable playable heroes that . . . control like they're from entirely different first-person games" and a new five vs. five multiplayer mode called Incursion, which "combines fast-paced first-person gameplay with the strategic team-based elements of games like League of Legends and Dota 2." Color me intrigued.
We don't know when the game is due out, but GameInformer says Gearbox is targeting the PC as well as next-gen consoles. Older platforms will have to sit this one out, apparently—unlike with the Borderlands series.
