Pictures of yet another X99 motherboard have made their way onto the web. ASRock posted shots of its X99M Killer on Facebook a few hours ago, revaling a microATX footprint and Fatal1ty branding. Take a look:
Apart from calling the X99M Killer the "world's first X99 Gaming Micro ATX" board, the Facebook post has little to say. We can still pick out some interesting details from the board shot, including one of the concessions made to squeeze into the smaller form factor. All the full-sized X99 mobos we've seen have eight memory slots, but this one sports only four. At least that's still enough to tap into all of the CPU's DDR4 memory channels. The box shot on the Facebook page also mentions ECC support.
On the storage front, the X99M Killer appears to be devoid of SATA Express connectivity. However, it does have an "Ultra" M.2 socket with four lanes of PCIe Gen3 bandwidth presumably linked to the CPU. I also count ten SATA ports, which seems like more than enough for a board this size.
Other items of note include Intel and Killer GigE controllers, fancy integrated audio with DTS Connect support, an auxiliary power input for the PCIe slots, and what appear to be dual socketed firmware chips tied to a toggle switch. The board also has the usual mix of tweaker-friendly items, like onboard buttons, a POST code display, and a CMOS reset button in the rear cluster.
While the X99M Fatal1ty doesn't have as much expansion capacity as larger X99 boards, its ability to cram Haswell-E into more compact chassis is definitely appealing. I doubt we'll see X99 boards based on the Mini-ITX form factor, so this may be as small as that platform gets.
