Borderlands 2 comes to SteamOS, and The Pre-Sequel will follow

— 11:38 AM on October 1, 2014

SteamOS is slowly picking up, well, you know. The number of native games has grown to nearly 700, and though most of those are obscure indie releases, Gearbox just added a couple of big-name titles. Borderlands 2 now runs on SteamOS, and the next game in the franchise, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, is coming to the Linux distro on October 14, the same day as the official Windows launch.

To celebrate the occasion, Borderlands 2 is on sale for $4.99 until 8:00 AM Central Time tomorrow. The Pre-Sequel will set you back $59.99, and based on the latest trailer, it might just be worth every penny.

The Pre-Sequel takes place on Elphis, Pandora's moon, and it explores the events surrounding Handsome Jack's rise to power. It looks like the low-gravity environment makes the action a lot more vertical than in previous Borderlands games. The combat seems to have more melee flavor, too, perhaps due to some Battleborn influences. More importantly, the franchise's irreverant sense of humor appears to be intact.

Given my history with Borderlands, I probably won't be able to resist the pull of The Pre-Sequel. I'm happy to see Gearbox making the game available on SteamOS, too, and I hope other developers follow suit.
