Super Bypass utility

— 12:12 AM on January 3, 2000

If you have a very recent Athlon motherboard with an AMD 750 chipset in it, you may be able to turn on the "Super Bypass" feature (see previous story) in order to boost performance. There's a Super Bypass utility program available for download at the AMD Zone that supposedly only works with revision C, stepping 5 of the 751 chip. Andy tried it on our Athlon 800 system, which appears to be revision C stepping 6, and it locked up the system. There was a BIOS setting called "Bypass enabled", which was set to "on", but the utility reported bypass as off. So the utility may well be worthless, but a few of you might find it interesting.
