Corsair has unveiled its most affordable case yet: the $49 Carbide Series 100R, an ATX mid-tower that looks surprisingly feature-packed for the price. The company has also unveiled the Carbide Series 100R Silent, a slightly more upscale variant that costs $59 and adds acoustic foam along with an integrated fan controller.
The Carbide Series 100R has a windowed side panel, a couple of 120-mm cooling vents up top, and a 120-mm exhaust fan built in. Its Silent sibling does away with the window and top vents; instead, it features acoustic foam on the top and side panels, and it adds a 120-mm intake fan along with a three-speed controler at the back of the case. Not bad for $59.
Both cases have tool-free drive bays, including four side-mounted 3.5" trays. (Those trays also accept 2.5" SSDs, but it looks like you'll have to screw those in manually.) Users can also fit as many as two 140-mm fans up front, and the front-panel I/O includes two USB 3.0 ports along with the usual headphone and mic jacks.
Other amenities include a dust filter for the bottom PSU mount, plus cut-outs in the motherboard tray for cable routing and access to the back of the CPU socket. Corsair's press release doesn't mention radiator support, but the official press shots show a closed-loop liquid cooler mounted to the rear 120-mm vent.
Corsair expects the Carbide Series 100R and Carbide Series 100R Silent to be available in the second quarter. Both enclosures will be covered by a two-year warranty.
