Video image quality compared

— 12:33 AM on August 24, 2001

TR reader Scott Levy sent along a link to this side-by-side comparison of video image quality between a Matrox G400 and a modded GeForce2 card. The "extreme close up" pictures communicate more than thousands of words. I'm not entirely sure what to make of the results, and I'm not sure how the GF2 card was modified—I assume it was modded to improve image quality, as some folks have taken to doing. It does seem clear that the pictures from the Sony monitor make the G400 the clear winner, but I have to wonder how much of the visual difference there could be erased with a simple control panel slider. What do you think?
