Deal of the week: A Bay Trail tablet for $75, a 5TB hard drive for $160, and more

E-tailers have cut prices on loads of big-screen TVs as part of their March Madness promotions, but we still managed to find some sweet PC hardware in the discount aisle.

  • If you're looking for a cheap tablet, HP's Stream 7 Signature Edition can be had for a song. The mini Windows 8 tablet is marked down to $79, and a promo code for an additional 5% off is available by texting MSSTORE to number 29502. So, that's 75 bucks for a quad-core Bay Trail tablet with an IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a MicroSD slot. Microsoft also throws in a $25 gift card for the Windows Store and a one-year subscription to Office 365.
  • Ultra-high-capacity hard drives are typically priced at a premium, but not this one. Amazon has slashed Toshiba's 5TB mechanical drive to just $159.99. This 7,200-RPM unit comes with 128MB of cache and a three-year warranty. It's temporarily out of stock, but it can still be ordered at the sale price.
  • A stack of BenQ monitors is on sale at Newegg with promo code EMCAPNA26. The most intriguing among them may be the G-Sync-infused XL2420G we recommended last month. This 24-incher sports a 1080p TN panel, and its variable refresh rate scales all the way up to 144Hz. After the promo code, the monitor can be had for only $530.99.
  • Coupons are all over the place at Newegg this week. Select monitors, hard drives, SSDs, PSUs, memory, and other components are available for 10-25% off the usual asking prices. There aren't too many standouts among the items on offer, but a couple of SSDs caught my eye: Samsung's 850 EVO 500GB for $179.99 and Crucial's MX200 250GB for $107.99, both with promo code EMCAPNA22.
