Look who's back! 27 years after Bard's Tale III, inXile Entertainment has announced Bard's Tale IV, and a Kickstarter page for the series' rebirth is already up. Check out the pitch video, which is worth watching for all the jabs at the modern gaming industry:
For the young'uns, Bard's Tale is a much-loved series of single-player role-playing games hailing from the 80s, with a mix of exploration, puzzles, and combat. It was actually one of the first games with 3D graphics.
The new sequel is another single-player affair with phase-based combat, in which you control a party of adventurers trawling through dungeons, fighting monsters, and solving riddles. The game uses Unreal Engine 4, which should give us nice vistas of Skara Brae... and its underground. It will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam and GOG.com.
In case you're not familiar with inXile's work, the team has extensive RPG pedigree. It released Wasteland 2 last year and is in the process of making Torment: Tides of Numenéra, both of which were enormous Kickstarter successes.
