EBN has more on Intel's surprising deal with Rambus.

The new agreement clears the way for Intel to launch a DDR chipset to support Pentium 4 processors without any legal problems with Rambus. Avo Kanadjian, Rambus senior vice president for worldwide marketing, said the cross-licensing pact gives Intel full access to Rambus' SDRAM and DDR technology, as well as Direct RDRAM patents.
Much of what we had suspected about this relationship has turned out to be true. It would seem that Intel had good reason to make the deal.
