SteelSeries has a new mouse out, and it promises a lot of features for an affordable price. Meet the Rival 100.
The Rival is clad with a matte surface and textured side grips. SteelSeries taps a PixArt 3059-SS optical sensor for tracking duties, which provides six sensitivity steps up to 4,000 DPI. SteelSeries says this custom-designed sensor has 1:1 tracking, no hardware acceleration, and can handle movement speeds of up to 143 inches per second and acceleration up to 20 gs. The company claims the new rodent has "40% higher tracking accuracy [...] than top competitive mice."
Since this is a gaming mouse, the six main buttons are all remappable. SteelSeries claims the Rival's shape will suit users of all grip styles, with the exception of southpaws—the mouse is for right-handers only. The obligatory cutomizable RGB LED lighting is also present, although it looks pretty tasteful judging by the pictures.
The Rival 100 is available right now at SteelSeries' website for a surprisingly low $40 (or 40€). Perhaps we have a new contender for the best-bang-for-the-buck title.
