The 2.5" SATA SSD market is full of competitors, but it's time to make room for one more. Zotac's Premium SSDs will soon join the crowd of products already vying for your SSD dollar.
Zotac's Premium SSDs use Toshiba MLC NAND in 240GB and 480GB capacities. A Phison S10 controller runs that flash. The controller gets 512MB of DDR3 cache for the 480GB model and 256MB for the 240GB drive. Both drives are rated for 500MB/s of sequential writes. Sequential reads are slightly different between the two: the larger version has a 560MB/s rating compared to 520MB/s for the smaller model. Zotac makes no mention of random read or write specs.
The expected write endurance for the Premium SSD family scales with capacity. Zotac says the 480GB drive will endure 480TB of writes, while the 240GB model can take 214TB. The Toshiba MLC NAND in both drives is rated for 3,000 program and erase cycles. Zotac backs these drives with a three-year warranty.
