Intel cheaper than AMD?

Gateway has become the latest OEM to drop AMD-based machines from its lineup. Joining the Intel-only camp, which includes OEM giant Dell, Gateway's move reflects what has to be some great volume OEM prices from Intel.

While AMD had supplied chips for a low-cost consumer line, "We've been able to meet our lower cost objectives with Intel," the Gateway spokeswoman said.
This is quite a blow for AMD, who has been struggling to stake out territory in the high volume OEM market. I have to wonder how much Intel's lower volume OEM and retail prices are inflated to offset the deep discounts it's giving the likes of Gateway and Dell.
