AMD's Radeon Software Crimson Edition packs new features, fixes, and a revamped UI. According to some users, though, the new software may also contain a nasty bug. Some gamers using the new driver software are reporting that their cards' fan speed is set too low, causing the GPU to overheat.

AMD is investigating these reports and promises a driver hotfix for the issue. In the company's own words:

AMD is aware of isolated reports of low fan states following the installation of Radeon Software ‘Crimson Edition’ on select Radeon GPUs. Its engineering teams have identified and addressed this issue, and AMD intends to release a hotfix on amd.com today Monday, November 30th.

This move comes after an earlier Tweet made by AMD acknowledging the issue. Some Reddit users were apparently aware of the problem a couple days ago, and some Twitter posters claim their cards suffered permanent damage after they installed the Crimson Edition software. Given how many failsafe measures are built into modern graphics cards, though, we think such failures are likely to be rather rare.
