G.Skill's latest 128GB DDR4 kit blends high speed and tight timings

G.Skill is dishing out a veritable onslaught of fast, high-capacity DDR4 RAM. The company has pulled back the curtain on its latest bombshell, the "Ripjaws V DDR4-3200MHz 128GB (16GBx8)" kit.

This kit is composed of eight 16GB DIMMs, and it's targeted at X99 motherboards with eight RAM slots. This RAM dishes out bytes at a blistering 3200 MT/s, but that's not the only thing that's special about it. RAM latency tends to rise with speed, but G.Skill has tuned these DIMMs to obtain 14-14-14-34 timings, lower than the JEDEC standard of 15-15-15-35. The DIMMs come with XMP 2.0 profiles burned in to allow for easy setup.

The heatsinks on these DIMMs look to be fairly tall, so you should check for clearance if you have an extra-large tower-style CPU heatsink. If you're wondering how X99 boards can accept 16GB DIMMs, Intel doesn't officially support that capacity, but mobo makers can enable it with a BIOS update.

Speed is never cheap, however. G.Skill will be selling this kit in late February, with a (brace for impact) price tag of $1,070. Medic!
