Broadband companies pulling back
C|Net has a couple of stories on Excite@Home, and MobileStar, both ISPs facing extreme belt-tightening measures. Excite, facing bankruptcy, isn't taking any new subscribers on in an attempt to slow the bleeding. MobileStar, a wireless provider, has virtually cleaned out all its staff in what appears to be a prelude to shutdown.
I have to wonder what things like this will do to the speed of broadband and wireless uptake. The more companies flop, the fewer I'd imagine we'll see taking the plunge, regardless of how potentially lucrative it could be.
