Deals of the week: Black Friday 2016

— 9:58 AM on November 25, 2016

Greetings, gerbils. We're writing this as we run from the stampede of Black Friday shoppers behind us. We're getting away by the skin o' our teeth, and we have deals for you. Here they are.

  • If you've been on the fence about a VR headset, then come down right away. The HTC Vive, complete with its touch controllers, is on sale at Newegg for $699.99. The discount from the usual $800 should be enough to take the plunge on what we feel is the best VR system around at the moment.

  • The Steam sale is well under way and SSDs are filling up as we speak. If yours is full, Newegg is offering the Crucial MX300 750GB for only $119.99, which is an insane deal. The drive is currently listed as out of stock, but there's a chance that Newegg will get some more in.

  • Kaby Lake may be around the corner, but for now the Intel Core i7-6700K CPU is pretty much the current price-vs-performance champion. It's on Newegg for $299.99, and Newegg is throwing in a $10 gift card with the chip. Get yours now—just remember to grab a third-party cooler on the way out the door.

  • It's no secret we're big fans of Fractal Design cases around here. Today, we have the Fractal Define R5 case for $69.99 at Newegg with promo code EMCFFGJ46. That's the lowest price the case has ever been at, and we hazard a guess the deal won't be around for long.

  • While we're on the topic of cases and cooling, how about Corsair's Hydro H100i V2 240-mm CLC? Newegg is offering it for $89.99 if you use promo code EMCFFGJ42, and there's a $10 rebate card on offer that can bring the price down even further.

  • Big game or media libraries need large spinning disks to store them. The Western Digital Black 5TB HDD is big and speedy with a 7,200 RPM spindle speed and 64MB of cache, and it's available at Newegg for $179.99 after promo code ESCFFGJ39. This too is the lowest price we've ever seen on this disk.

  • Been on the fence about a high-refresh-rate gaming monitor? Then take a look at the Acer GN246HL. This 24", 1920x1080 display has a 144-Hz refresh rate—just the ticket for those hairy CS:GO matches. Newegg is offering it for $149.99. You can use 3D glasses with it, too.

  • If you prefer a solid workhorse monitor, look no further than the Asus VN248H-P. This 24" display has a 1920x1080 AH-IPS panel that should offer good color reproduction. It's on sale at Newegg for $119.99, and there's a $20 rebate card on offer, too.

  • And now for the peripheral onslaught. The Logitech G610 Orion keyboard is backlit, has media keys, a volume roller, and more importantly, Cherry MX Red switches. It can be yours for a mere $59.99 at Best Buy.

  • If you prefer a keyboard that's a little more upmarket, there's the Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum. This model is similar in shape to the G610 above, except it has programmable RGB LED lighting and Romer-G key switches. Best Buy is offering it for $79.99.

  • We have the keyboards, and now it's time to move onto mice. The Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum is a widely-acclaimed rodent with tunable weights, 11 buttons, and customizable RGB LED lighting. Best Buy is running a sale for $39.99, a price that can be filed under "stupid low." Get'em while they're hot.

  • If you hate wires on your mice, you're good too. The Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum is on sale for $74.99 at Best Buy. This mouse is top-notch and usually goes for north of $100.

  • Fancy a fancy set of headphones? The BeyerDynamic T90 Chrome cans are on the mid-to-upper end of the audiophile scale, and today they're on sale for $299.00 at Newegg. That's a sweet-sounding deal if we ever saw one. Just be sure your motherboard or sound card has a headphone amp.

  • Headphones are nice, but nothing can replace the meaty thump of a good subwoofer. The Klipsch R-10SW is a 10" sub capable of delivering 300W of power, and you can grab it for only $199.99 at Newegg. Just the ticket for complementing your home theater or gaming setup.

  • Looking to do some modest gaming on the go? The Asus F550VX-NH76 is a 15.6" laptop with a Core i7-6700HK CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD plus 1TB HDD storage combo, and a GeForce GTX 950M graphics card. These specs usually run for a pretty penny, but Newegg is offering this lappie today for $649.99.

  • Few things can enrage a person more than spotty internet or Wi-Fi connectivity. The solution is a proper router, and we've got just the one. The Asus RT-AC68R is an AC1900 router with three antennas, a 1GHz dual-core CPU, and a sleek-looking design. It can be yours for $129.99 at Newegg, and there's a $30 rebate card on offer to bring the price down further.

  • Even though the Steam autumn sale is the gaming talk of the day, there some game deals to be had on other retailers. Newegg is offering a download code for Grand Theft Auto V for only $24.99 after the coupon code EMCFFGJ24. Not bad for a high-profile game that's just a tad over a year old.

  • Last but not least, we have something handy. The Corsair Survivor Stealth 128GB USB pen drive is nigh-on indestructible and can be had for $34.99 with promo code ESCFFGJ57. For the record, I'm still using a 4GB Survivor stick that's close to ten years old now.
