Deals of the week: motherboards, spinning storage, and more

Howdy, gerbils! We bet you're stocking up on all the liquor you can get your little paws on, in preparation for the huge party tomorrow. Your liver's barely recovered from all that eggnog, and now it's getting hit by another dose of foul liquids. While you're still sober, we'd like you to take a look at our selection of deals. CES may be just around the corner, but there are still tasty promotions running. See what we have in store below.

  • We've pretty much run out of SSD deals and turned to spinning rust instead. Today's offer on the hard drive front is the Western Digital Black 5TB drive. This HDD is one of the fastest consumer drives around, and should be a great option for those that need speedy storage for work or that have an immense Steam library. Newegg is selling this spinner for $189.99 if you use promo code ESCFGHE23.

  • Next up is a double-whammy on Asus motherboards. First up is a small deal. Physically small, that is. The Asus H110M-A/M.2 is a microATX motherboard with an M.2 slot, a front-panel connector for USB 3.0 ports, isolated audio circuits, and an Intel Gigabit Ethernet adapter. "But there's nothing fancy about it," you say. To which I reply: you can get one at Newegg for a measly $44.99, and there's a $10 rebate card on top of that.

  • If a microATX motherboard doesn't quite fit your bill, we have another option. The Asus Z170-E is a full-sized, full-featured ATX mobo with an Intel Gigabit Ethernet controller, an M.2 PCIe x4 slot, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. There are also three PCIe x16 slots on tap, along with CrossFire support. This board is currently going for $110.99 on Newegg, and there's a $25 rebate card available that can bring the price down to only $85.99

  • CES and its bevy of product announcements may be on the way, but there are great deals to be had on current-generation hardware. The MSI GE72VR is a 17.3" laptop with a 1920x1080 display, a Core i7-6700HQ CPU, and an awesome GeForce GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. That big pack of hardware is complemented by 16GB of RAM, and a storage combo with an 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. A laptop with this kind of power would normally run you up a pretty penny, but Newegg is selling it for $1,299. That's a great price on its own, but there's an additional $50 to be had via rebate card.

  • Finally, there's a great-sounding deal. The Audio-Technica ATH-M20x headphones are among the top choices for a budget set of cans. They offer a closed-back, circumaural design, a generous amount of padding, and an 8' cable. Despite the affordable price, the sound quality on these should be leagues above what passes for "gaming" headsets these days. Grab a pair from Newegg for an absurdly-low $24.95.

That's all we have for today, folks. Don't drink too much in New Year's parties. If we missed a good deal, please post it in the comments section below.
