Lord of the Rings movie: Good.
I saw it, and it's amazing. I love epic films (Lawrence of Arabia, Braveheart), and this sets a new standard for epic films. It's three hours packed full of action, and it never rests. I was exhausted by the end. The CGI is impressive; it's like they used the power that helped create The Mummy for good instead of evil. The story and its mythology, of course, are both brilliant. This adaptation of Tolkien will take a lot of the luster off of Lucas's accomplishments with the Star Wars series, too. It's so clear how much Lucas plunder.. er.. borrowed from Tolkien now. The acting and direction are adequate or better, unlike too much of what Hollywood serves up nowadays. And the sets are astounding. They really make it all work. Bring on the next two.
