Keygen program for MS activation on the loose

— 12:00 AM on February 15, 2002

Rumors are floating around the web about a program that apparently can generate valid activation keys for Windows XP. The most comprehensive report I've seen on the subject is this story by John Lettice at The Register. Apparently, the program can generate as many as 25 keys in a night's worth of number crunching, and folks seem to think Microsoft won't have any good way of differentating between a "valid" key created by the program and one issued by Microsoft. If it's all true, this will be quite an embarrassment for MS.
