I'm amazed and humbled by the way you guys have pitched in to help support TR since our call for donations this past week. We're building up a pretty nice war chest between Amazon and Paypal, and we've sold quite a few shirts and mugs, too. Thanks a million to each of you who contributed. Please let me know if you gave $15 or more and you still don't have access to our contributors-only forum, The Smoky Back Room, where we are currently discussing all manner of secretive, enthralling topics about which the rest of the world can only dream.
I should clarify a couple of things, because even though I tried to make things crystal clear the first time around, some folks seem to be fretting. Here's the deal:
- We are not going away, even if you don't support us with donations. We're too stubborn for that. Like I said, we love doing this, and we'll support it ourselves as necessary. We've been supporting TR out of our own pockets for a good while now, and we're not about to stop.
- TR is not becoming a subscription-driven site. We're have no plans to make folks pay to read our articles. We may come up with some additional perks for those who do contribute to the causelike the tantalizing, mysterious, and oh-so sweet contributors' forumbut the basic articles, reviews, and news are open to all.
Because we're not going to require your hard-earned cash from you, we wanted to find another way to bring in some revenue from readers who were willing to help. We think it's a cause worth supporting. That's what the whole contributions thing is about.
Finally, in case you were wondering, it's probably best to donate with PayPal if you don't mind using them, since Amazon holds back a bit more of a fee for its service.
