VIA "KT400" block diagram appears

— 7:03 PM on May 13, 2002

A French website by the name of has stumbled upon some VIA Apollo "KT400" information. VIA's as-yet-unannounced core logic chipset features the new VT8377 North Bridge and VT8235 South Bridge. The block diagram (in English, yeah!) gives you a good idea of what to expect. It will support AGP 8X, ATA/133, and DDR400—among other things. It will also be backward-compatible with today's 'slower' DDR memory, too. When combined with AMD's seemingly long-in-gestation Thoroughbred, will VIA's latest enable the Athlon platform to wrest back the performance crown from Intel's Pentium 4?
