Friday night topic: A deadly backlash?

— 6:24 PM on May 17, 2002

An astute reader suggests our regular "off" topic this evening. He writes:

Was the murder of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn caused by the Politically Correct backlash against Le Pen and other opponents of open immigration, and its consequent end of the national culture of those nations where such politicies were adopted by anti-Western elites.

My answer is, it's plausible, and there's no doubt that leftist cant has informed the thinking of a huge portion of government school children in the last couple of generations, which has weakened the basic defense and belief in the sacredness of every human life, replaced with the notion that we're just another animal, smarter but more in need of control, as well. It makes for a more complex answer, like the real world.
