Gator sued by web publishers
I'm sure a number of you have uninstalled Gator software before, so you may be amused that they're being sued for piggybacking their advertising onto web sites. ZDNet has the story.
Redwood City, Calif.-based Gator is "essentially a parasite on the Web that free rides on the hard work and the investments of plaintiffs and other Web site owners," according to the filing. "In short, Gator sells advertising space on the plaintiffs' Web sites without (their) authorization and pockets the profits from such sales."
Because Gator delivers pop-up ads that aren't technically a part of any given web site's real estate, I'm not sure how successful the suit will be. Still, it will be interesting to see what kind of precedent is set.
