Salon on Aqua

— 12:59 AM on January 26, 2000

There's a pretty entertaining article at discussing future software products from Apple. One of the funnier assertions (actually taken from Apple's former interface designer) is that Aqua (the new Mac interface) may be the computer equivalent of New Coke (can you say ouch, boys and girls?).

The author thinks (and I would agree) that it seems strange to focus all the attention on Aqua and none on the new operating system (OS X) that it sits on top of. An entertaining quote: "To me, the bigger news is that Apple looks ready, finally, to roll a modern operating system out the door." Preemptive multitasking and protected memory come to the Mac OS at last, and everybody says "Look at the pretty buttons." (sigh)
