Palm slashes prices on handhelds

Palm is slashing prices on almost every product in their handheld line, with some prices falling as much as 50%. The move was a long time coming, especially considering the stiff competition that Palm has seen from PalmOS rivals Handspring and Sony.

With the exception of Sony's Clie NR70V, there hasn't really been anything exciting going on in the Palm world. Handspring's Treos are selling well, but everyone seems to be waiting for Palm's new OS, which is set to debut this fall. The new OS will define the capabilities of the next generation of Palm-based handhelds, which will likely start looking a lot more like devices based on Microsoft's PocketPC OS.
