RIP: Pentium III

— 3:57 AM on August 23, 2002

According to this article over at Xbit Labs, Intel will completely halt Pentium III production by year's end. Pentium III-based Celerons will be replaced by new Celerons based on the Pentium 4 core, but the replacement for SMP-capable Tualatin Pentium III processors is a little more complicated. It looks like Xeons will be the way to go for high-end SMP systems, but Intel may try to push single Hyperthreaded Pentium 4 processors into low-end workstation and server platforms.

Tip: You can use the A/Z keys to walk threads.
