Accoring to a story at PCWorld, Intel plans to make it to the magical 1GHz markair cooledwith their Pentium III chips, and they're planning to "present a paper at a closely watched technical conference next month to describe the process". Sounds like Intel may have a few more tweaks up their sleeves for the ol' P6 core, eh? If they do it, it will be one heck of an accomplishmentfrom 166MHz (Pentium Pro) to 1000MHz (PIII) with essentially the same CPU core.
