TuxRacer on the Xbox

— 4:20 AM on September 3, 2002

I noticed up on Slashdot that there's an update on the Xbox Linux Project. You can find some pictures of the latest progress, which includes running StarOffice and TuxRacer here.

An Xbox will cost you more than one of Microtel's new sub-$200 PCs, so using the game console as merely an email or web terminal seems like a bit of a waste. However, the Xbox's has a lot more to offer in terms of audio and graphics than many mainstream PCs, and it could make one heck of a multimedia hub. If they can get the Xbox playing DVDs, DivX movies, and MP3s feeding a few great 3D visualization plug-ins, I might just have to pick one up myself.
