Subscription model for Office XP fails
Microsoft has been itching to sell software as a service rather than a product for some time now, but it looks like the public isn't ready to wrap its head around a subscription model just yet. The Inquirer reports:
Microsoft Australia's Office product manager Tony Wilkinson put the usual positive spin on the subject, telling news.com.au, "From their feedback, we learned that customers find subscriptions a useful method of purchasing software but are not ready to fully adopt this process."
I don't doubt that we'll keep seeing product activation in future products, but at least for the time being it looks like Microsoft isn't going to force the subscription issue.
