Radeon 9500 next week?

— 5:29 AM on October 8, 2002

More speculation today on when we'll see ATI's Radeon 9500, and just what the new chip will look like. According to this story over at X-Bit Labs, the Radeon 9500 and 9500 Pro, which are both based on the Radeon 9700 Pro GPU, are coming next week. Clock speeds for the new cards will reportedly be 275 and 550MHz for the core and memory, with a 128-bit memory bus and, most importantly, full DirectX 9 functionality. The main difference between the Radeon 9500 and the Radeon 9500 Pro appears to be in the number of pixel pipelines; the Pro will apparently have eight, while the vanilla Radeon 9500 will have only four.

Radeon 9500 cards with the above specs would nicely fill in the gap between ATI's current Radeon 9000 and 9700-based products, but as always, we'll have to wait for the official word from ATI.
