VIA working on Pentium 4 clone?
This story over at Silicon Strategies reveals some interesting details on VIA's upcoming Nehemiah processor, which will scale up to 1.5GHz. Apparently, the chip is competitive with Intel's Celeron, though there's no information on whether performance is on par clock-for-clock, or overall. Intel does, after all, already have 2GHz Pentium 4 Celerons on the market.
What's perhaps more interesting about the story is that it drops a hint that VIA has been developing a pin-compatible Pentium 4 clone. Since VIA's current C3 processors are tied to a dated Socket 370 platform with ever fewer motherboard options, a processor compatible with Socket 478 motherboards would certainly be welcomed, especially as integrated components on newer motherboards get better and better.
