GeForce4 chip shortage?

— 6:11 PM on October 25, 2002

DigiTimes is reporting that a shortage of GeForce4 Ti 4200, Ti 4600, and MX 440 chips is brewing just in time for the holiday buying season. A shortage of chips is never good news, but this one comes just as it's becoming clear that NV30 won't be available in volume before 2003, and as ATI releases more direct competition for NVIDIA's mid-range graphics cards.

Now, more than ever, it's clear that high-performance hardware at the right price point isn't enough to ensure success; volume has to be there to meet demand or someone else is going to get the sale.
