New Freenet version released

— 12:52 PM on October 28, 2002

P2P enthusiasts will want to know that a new version of Freenet has been released. The premise behind Freenet is complete anonymity, which should keep the tin foil hat crowd happy, and should ensure that whatever you're doing is free from the prying eyes of the RIAA, MPAA, or Big Brother. This latest 0.5 version of Freenet is the first version in 14 months, and it brings a number of new features to the table that make it far more than just a P2P network with some encryption built in. Most notable is support for third party tools to allow website authoring, discussion forums, and potentially streaming audio.
