NVIDIA stops producing GeForce4 Ti 4600 chips?

— 12:00 AM on November 4, 2002

According to this story over at X-bit Labs, NVIDIA has halted production of GeForce4 Ti 4600 chips. For the holidays, it looks like NVIDIA is trying to push out its GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP 8X, whose performance we explored here.

The GeForce4 Ti 4200 isn't exactly a high-end part, and questions surrounding the initial volume availability of NV30-based products have me wondering what NVIDIA intends to put up against the top end of ATI's lineup this holiday buying season. Perhaps, in light of ATI's most recent releases, NVIDIA doesn't think the GeForce4 Ti 4600 is competitive anymore. Then again, maybe the move is actually bullish, with NVIDIA confident it can deliver NV30 volume in time for the holidays.
