The election night fun begins

— 7:19 PM on November 5, 2002

Polls are closing across the USA, except where they aren't, and IT issues are in the spotlight. New, computerized voting machines are making their debut in a number of states, and some disconcerting glitches have been reported. The most spectacular failure, however, may be the big media's Voter News Service's new system, which has outright failed in its mission to collect and analyze exit poll data.

So will technology help clean up vote fraud, or will it only amplify the ability of determined party operatives to manipulate results?
