Mobility Radeon 9000-equipped notebooks popping up

— 1:45 AM on November 11, 2002

ATI's Mobility Radeon 9000 looks like it's going to be the graphics chip of choice for killer gaming notebooks this holiday season, and [H]ard|OCP has a list of 17 different notebook models sporting the new chip. Making an appearance are notebooks from Alienware, Compaq, Dell, and even Apple's new PowerBook G4s.

I'm actually looking at picking up a notebook in the next month or so, and though I hadn't originally intended on getting something well-equipped enough to have a Mobility Radeon 9000, it's getting tempting. Despite the fact that I don't game nearly as much as I'd like, I'm getting less and less inclined to pay for anything lacking full DirectX 8.1 support, just on principle.
