Barton to use 400MHz system bus

— 3:26 AM on November 20, 2002

AMD's upcoming Barton processors will apparently use a 400MHz system bus (2x200MHz), which should keep the new chips nicely in sync with DDR400 memory. The faster bus reportedly gives Barton's performance a nice boost, which means that AMD may have to juggle its PR ratings for the new chips.

Reports from Comdex also suggest that VIA's upcoming KT400A has support for dual-channel DDR400 memory, which should make the chipset a more closely-matched competitor for NVIDIA's nForce2.
