Judge rules MS must include Java in Windows

— 12:04 AM on December 24, 2002

DiM sends word of this story about an injunction in Sun's antitrust suit against Microsoft. The injuction will force Microsoft to include Java in Windows, so Microsoft can't use Windows' dominance to give its .NET initiative (too much of) an unfair advantage. It will be interesting to see if further court rulings continue to shape future versions of Windows. Now that MS's violations of antitrust law have been established in court, federal judges are treating Windows like a semi-public property. Seems oddly appropriate, yet vaguely disturbing.
