Wow. Had a day of hard-core hardware setup and testing here in Damage Labs. It was good to get back into the swing of things finally after the holidays and all of that. The new web server is just about ready to ship out to the new hosting facility, and I've built myself a dually system based on the Gigabyte MPX board. If I can get it running stable and I like the performance, I may move all my data onto it and upgrade my main PC for the first time in a while. I built a RAID 1 using a pair of 80GB Western Digital JBB drives ($79 after rebate at Circuit City!), and I don't know whether I can trust this Promise controller. My experiences with IDE RAID have not been good.
We'll see. It would be nice to have a dually, but I'm wondering if a single-CPU nForce2 setup isn't a better choice than a 760MPX nowadays for a desktop system.
I was pleased to see our Folding team turning in some nice numbers over the past few days. If you've joined up previously and then slacked off, the New Year is a good time to resolve to keep participating. We've got a lot of work to do now if we want to catch the Frenchies.
