Carmack weighs in on GeForce FX

Id programming legend John Carmack has posted his thoughts on NVIDIA's new GeForce FX and how it will perform in the new Doom game when compared with ATI's Radeon 9700 Pro.

At the moment, the NV30 is slightly faster on most scenes in Doom than the R300, but I can still find some scenes where the R300 pulls a little bit ahead. The issue is complicated because of the different ways the cards can choose to run the game.
By the time the new Doom game is released, it's likely that ATI and NVIDIA will both have new high-end cards and/or cheaper versions of their current flagships. Carmack also mentions that NVIDIA currently has somewhat better driver quality than ATI, and that the GeForce FX's fan is "VERY LOUD."
